Who we are

Wollaston Village (wollastonvillage.org.uk) is an independent community website run by volunteers for the residents of Wollaston, Northamptonshire. It is not a commercial operation and is not affiliated with Wollaston Parish Council or any other public authority.

For questions about this policy, contact us at [email protected].

What information we collect

We collect personal information only when you choose to submit it to us. This happens in two places:

  • Community Contributions form — your name, email address, and the content you submit (memories, photographs, historical information).
  • Village Diary event submission form — your name, email address, and details of the event you are submitting.

We also collect anonymous visitor statistics through Google Analytics. This helps us understand how people use the website so we can improve its content and performance. This information cannot be used to identify you personally — see the Google Analytics section below for full details.

We do not use advertising networks or any other tools that collect personal data for commercial purposes.

How we use your information

Information submitted via our forms is used only to:

  • Review and respond to your submission
  • Publish content you have explicitly offered for publication (e.g. historical memories or photographs), with your credit if requested
  • Contact you if we have questions about your submission

We will never sell, share or pass your personal information to third parties for marketing purposes.

Google Analytics

We use Google Analytics to collect anonymous information about how visitors use this website. Google Analytics is a web analytics service provided by Google LLC. It helps us see things like which pages are most popular, how long people spend on the site, and where visitors come from — so we can make the site more useful.

The information collected includes:

  • Pages viewed and time spent on each page
  • The website or search engine that referred you to us
  • Your browser type and device type
  • Your approximate location (country or region — not your precise address)

No personally identifiable information is intentionally collected through Google Analytics. Your IP address is anonymised before it is stored. Google may process this data in accordance with its own Privacy Policy.

You can opt out of Google Analytics across all websites by installing the Google Analytics Opt-out Browser Add-on.

Legal basis for processing

Under UK GDPR, our legal basis for processing the personal data you submit is legitimate interests — specifically, the operation of a community website and the publication of local history content. Where you submit content for publication, we rely on your consent as expressed by the act of submission. Anonymous analytics data is processed on the basis of our legitimate interest in understanding and improving the website.

How long we keep your data

Contact information submitted via forms is kept only as long as necessary to process your submission — typically no longer than 12 months. Published content (historical articles, photographs with credits) may be retained indefinitely as part of the village archive, but you may request its removal at any time.

Your rights

Under UK GDPR you have the right to:

  • Access the personal data we hold about you
  • Request correction of inaccurate data
  • Request deletion of your data
  • Object to processing of your data
  • Withdraw consent at any time (where consent is the basis for processing)

To exercise any of these rights, email us at [email protected]. We will respond within 30 days.

Cookies

This website uses the following types of cookies:

  • Essential cookies — required for the website to function correctly. These are set by the hosting platform and do not identify you personally.
  • Google Analytics cookies — used to collect anonymous statistics about how visitors use the site, as described above.
  • Third-party cookies — where the site includes embedded content or features from services such as Google Maps, Facebook or Instagram, those services may set their own cookies. We do not control these cookies and recommend reading the relevant third-party privacy policies.

See our Cookie Notice for full details.

Third-party links and embedded content

This site contains links to external websites (including Amazon, Scott Bader, local businesses and others) and may include embedded content or features from third-party services such as Google Maps, Facebook and Instagram. We are not responsible for the privacy practices of those services and encourage you to read their own privacy policies. When you interact with embedded third-party content, those services may collect data about you in accordance with their own terms.

Data security

We take reasonable steps to protect any personal information you share with us. However, no website or internet transmission can be guaranteed to be completely secure. If you have concerns about the security of your data, please contact us at [email protected].

Complaints

If you have concerns about how we handle your data, you have the right to lodge a complaint with the UK Information Commissioner's Office (ICO) at ico.org.uk.
