Accessibility Statement

Last updated: 4 June 2026

Our commitment

Wollaston Village is a community website for all residents — including those with disabilities, older residents, and anyone using assistive technology. We are committed to making this site as accessible as possible and to improving it continuously.

What we have done

  • Used semantic HTML throughout — headings, landmarks, lists and navigation are properly structured
  • Ensured colour contrast meets WCAG 2.1 AA standards for normal and large text
  • All images include descriptive alt text, or empty alt attributes where images are decorative
  • All interactive elements (links, buttons, form fields) are keyboard navigable
  • Form inputs are associated with visible labels
  • The site is fully responsive and usable on mobile devices, tablets and desktop screens
  • Text can be resized up to 200% without loss of content or functionality
  • We do not use flashing content or animations that could trigger photosensitive conditions

Known limitations

We are a small volunteer-run community project and do not have the resources of a large organisation. Some known limitations include:

  • Historic photographs in the archive may have limited or no alt text descriptions — we are working to improve this
  • Some older content may not fully meet all WCAG 2.1 AA criteria — we review and improve this as we become aware of issues
  • PDF documents (if any are linked) may not be fully accessible

Technical specification

This website is built using modern web standards and aims to conform to the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.1 at Level AA. It has been tested with:

  • Keyboard-only navigation
  • Screen reader testing (VoiceOver on macOS/iOS)
  • Browser zoom up to 200%
  • Mobile screen sizes from 320px wide
